Plans to raise exports and upgrade small business sector 18.7% in three years

The Egyptian government affirmed its dedication to increasing exports and reducing the trade deficit through cooperation with the private sector and export associations.
"Exports should top $ 5.3 billion in 2001 with an average increase of 18.7 per cent over the following three years, "Minister of Economy and Foreign Trade Youssef Boutros Ghali said.
"The government plans to develop the private sector and establish the proposed federation of local exports, as well as support the persistent efforts of trade representation offices and the Egyptian export promoting center (EEPC)," Ghali said.
He added that his ministry had already begun intensive efforts to upgrade the small business sector through facilitating administrative, financing and marketing procedures.
It is also considering a national conference for small projects and cottage industries in a bid to support them.
Ghali added that his ministry was seeking to increase local savings for enhancing national investment and development resources.
