A precious find of antiquities in Sinai
Egypt, History, 4/21/2001
The Egyptian-US archaeological mission in Tel Al-Bourg in Northern Sinai unearthed a collection of pottery that dates back to the time of Pharaoh King Amenhotep, who ruled Egypt from 1459 to 1425 B.C.
Gaballah Ali Gaballah, Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities (SCA), said the mission also found several royal tools that date back to the same era.
"A granite pillar having the name Ramases II inscribed on it was unearthed along with a number of pottery pieces," he said.
Earlier in the month it was agreed to overhaul a host of ancient churches in north Sinai, believed to be rich in ancient relics and antiquities discovered so far.
