People's Assembly condemns Israeli strike of Beirut-based Syrian site
Egypt-Israel, Politics, 4/21/2001

The Egyptian People's Assembly Arab Relations Committee condemned on Friday the Israeli blitzkrieg on a Syrian radar site East of the Lebanese capital Beirut.

The committee warned against a possible outbreak of the situation in the Middle East. In a statement, the committee branded the new Israeli aggression as an unjustifiable escalation of violence and a waste of all positive steps taken and agreements reached.

The Middle East peacemaking drive has hit, because of irresponsible Israeli practices, a dead tunnel, according to the statement.

The committee backed the decisive stance of President Hosni Mubarak and his warnings against the escalation of Israeli aggression.

This stance, according to the statement, had its impact on the US State Department which issued a statement criticizing Israel.

The committee also called on Arab powers to embark on solidarity and fruitful cooperative stances to stand up to such vicious attacks by the enemy.
