UN informed of Egyptian-Jordanian initiative

Egyptian Delegate to the UN Ahmad Abul-Gheit met late Friday with UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan toreview the Egyptian-Jordanian paper on the situation in the occupied territories. Abul-Gheit conveyed a verbal message from Foreign Minister Amr Moussa to Annan on the Egyptian viewpoint regarding the current situation and the need for an international community intervention to get Israel halt its escalation of the situation.
In statements following his meeting with Annan, Abul-Gheit said that Annan voiced deep concern over possible further deterioration of the situation.
He added that the initiative came in line with the Arab Group's moves inside the UN.
