Egypt's technical response expected soon

Egypt's Minister of Transport Ibrahim el-Demiri Thursday said that the Egyptian investigation team had received a draft report on probes into the EgyptAir plane crash which killed all 217 passengers on board in October 1999.

The minister added that he directed the Egyptian investigation team prepare a technical response to the report within 60 days ahead of the final report.

He described as "unacceptable speculation" the causes mentioned-in the draft report behind the fatal plunge of the aircraft.

"We hoped that the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) would not have rushed to issue the draft report on investigations before giving a technical response to the demands of the Egyptian side which focused on the elevator control system, radar information and analysis of statements uttered inside the cockpit before the accident," el-Demiri said.

Egypt Air said that investigations into the October 1999 crash of its Flight 990, and other Boeing 767s, raised serious questions about the integrity of the elevator control system, which makes the aircraft go up and down.
