Iraq says Iran commited new attack against it
Iraq-Iran, Politics, 4/20/2001

"The Iranian regime on Wednesday between (04:00-07:00) a.m. committed a new aggression against Iraq. It fired 56 surface-to-surface missiles at Iraqi cities of Basra, Kut, Khalis and Jelawla, causing serious destruction and damage," said an official Iraqi news agency report.

The report said "Let the Iranians, at the forefront of which those officials who were not in the authority when the Iranian aggression on Iraq started in September 4, 1980, understand that such behaviours then ended with a war lasted for 8 years. So, if the Iranian officials wanted in such aggressive act to give indications that will brig them closer to the Zionism and America, or to implement their security agreement with the Saudi agents, we say to them that we and our people and army work to get an opportunity of honour.."

The agency report that two civilians have been killed and 19 wounded in the cities of Jelawla, Khalis and Muqdaidiya at Diala province adding "Some houses, a mosque, Jelawla Trade Preparatory school have been destroyed."

The Iranian offical news agency quoted Brigadier-General Ahmad Kazemi, a senior chief with the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps as saying "Iran's attack against the terrorist MKO (Mujahideen Khalq Organization) was a warning to the group to halt its "sabotage and terrorist operations." The INA reported that the Iranian ambassador to the United Nations on Wednesday told the Security Council chairman that Iran's attack against Iraq-based rebels was a "defensive" move and that the Mujahideen Khalq organization has carried out several rocket attacks and assassinations in Iran's big cities in recent months.

Meantime today, the BBC report that Iraq on Thursday shot down an unmanned Iranian spy plane north east of Baghdad.
