Federation of Islamic Universities voices solidarity with Palestinian people
Palestine-Regional, Politics, 4/20/2001
The Federation of the Universities of the Islamic World expressed total solidarity with the Palestinian people who are struggling to defend their own national right to establish their independent state with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.
This came in a statement issued Thursday by the General Conference of the Federation of the Universities of the Islamic World at the close of its Second Session held at the International Islamic University in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, April 17-19.
The statement strongly condemned "the savage aggression" being perpetrated by the Israeli occupation authorities against the Palestinian people and against the Palestinian educational, cultural and scientific institutions.
The General Conference of the Federation of the Universities of the Islamic World reiterated its full support to the Palestinian universities and appealed to the international community to act swiftly in order to bring to an end the horrendous acts of aggression committed against the Palestinian citizens on their own national territory under Israeli occupation.
The Conference also urged all the universities of the Muslim World to provide financial, technical and academic support to the Palestinian universities and educational, scientific and cultural institutions, in order to back up its resistance against Israel's aggression and policy of oppression, blockade and starvation imposed upon the Palestinian people.
The General Conference of the Federation of the Universities of the Islamic World, whose opening session was chaired by Malaysian Prime Minister, Mahathir Mohamad, ended its deliberations late on Wednesday evening by adopting the final report.
The Conference decided to hold its third session at Sharjah University, in the United Arab Emirates.
