Korean economic mission to visit Morocco

A South-Korean economic delegation will visit Morocco April 22-24 to explore partnership opportunities with Moroccan economic operators.

The delegation, including 20 businessmen, will be led by external trade minister, Hwang Doo-Yun.

Korean ambassador to Morocco, Chul-Ki Ju, told the press on Wednesday that Morocco and Korea are called to enhance their economic and commercial ties to hoist them to the level of their excellent political relations.

The diplomat voiced hope that the visit will highlight by the creation of an adequate frame that will pave the way for a fruitful partnership between the two countries and for the establishment of regular contacts between economic operators.

"Business and partnership opportunities do exist. We have to encourage contacts between the two countries' economic decision-makers," the diplomat said, adding that Morocco and Korea can use their territories as gateways for the marketing of their products in their respective regions (sub-Saharan Africa for Korea and East Asia for Morocco).

Korean exports to Morocco stood at $ 89 million in 2000, against $ 30 million for Moroccan exports to the Asian country. Morocco imports vehicles, house appliances and textile from Korea and exports phosphates, minerals and fishery products to the Asian country.

Morocco and Korea, which established diplomatic relations in 1962, are bound by five accords of economic and commercial cooperation.
