Morocco elected president of world human rights body
Regional-Morocco, Culture, 4/20/2001

Morocco was elected Wednesday president of the International Human Rights Coordination Committee, a move evidencing the world recognition of the great strides Morocco made in human rights and democracy promotion. The election was made during the Committee's meeting in Geneva, that opened on Wednesday, on the fringes of the works of the UN Human Rights Commission.

Delegates to the meeting told MAP bureau in Geneva that Morocco's election to top the body for at least one year is a sign of trust and an international recognition for Morocco's major achievements in human rights issues.

Mexico was elected vice-president of the Committee.
