Lebanon celebrates Qana anniversary
Lebanon-Israel, Politics, 4/19/2001

The Lebanese President Emil Lahoud has asserted the solid Lebanese and Syrian position in confrontation of the situation Israel tries to impose on the two "sisterly" states. He condemned the Israeli aggressive policy against the Arabs, in general and against Syria and Lebanon in particular.

The Lebanese President added during his meeting on Wednesday with the commander of the Lebanese army Michael Suleiman and several Lebanese security and military delegations that this solid stand will enable us foil the aggressive Israeli schemes which the government of Sharon is responsible for.

The Lebanese President commended the role played by the Lebanese army and security establishments in defending the homeland and in preserving security and ensuring stability.

He also hailed the martyrs of the Qana massacre ( committed by the Israeli forces on April 18, 1996). He explained that this Israeli carnage is considered one of the ugliest crimes against humanity because it targeted innocent people who resorted to UNIFIL center in Lebanon fleeing the Israeli confidence, having in them confidence in the immunity of the International legitimacy.

He added that "Lebanon will never forget its martyrs who were the bridge towards attaining victory and martyrdom will be always live in the memoir."

He stressed that the Lebanese national solidarity was a natural outcome of commitment to the Lebanese national army which was re-built in 1990.
