Morocco-Palestine, Politics, 4/18/2001
Morocco's King Mohammed VI of Morocco and chairman of the Al-Quds committee has vehemently condemned the Israeli aggressions against the holy shrines in Al-Quds (Jerusalem).
A statement, released Wednesday by the Al-Quds Committee chairmanship, said King Mohammed VI "vehemently condemns" Israeli acts of violence and "decries" Israeli threats.
"in view of the upsurge of acts of violence, the iniquitous and unjustified use of force by Israeli occupying forces against unarmed Palestinians and in view of the Israeli Prime Minister's provocations and threats to perpetrate attacks against the holy shrines in Al-Quds Acharif and to authorize extremists to enter the mosque esplanade, in violation of all religious values and international conventions and usage, King Mohammed VI, chairman of the Al-Quds Committee, vehemently condemns these acts and decries these threats," said the statement.
King Mohammed VI calls the international community and the United Nations to take emergency action to shoulder their responsibility in implementing the UN relevant resolutions on the protection of civilians and holy shrines and to put an end to the Israeli aggressions, which are threatening to plunge the region in an upsurge of violence and tension, putting at stake international security and peace, the statement said.
The sovereign also calls the international community and all peace-loving people throughout the world to intervene with the Israeli government to push it renounce its intransigence, show of force and occupation logic and to show instead wisdom and attachment to dialogue on the basis of international legality and UN resolutions, the statement said.
Set up in 1975 by the Organization of the Islamic Conference, the Al-Quds Committee seeks to defend the Arab and Islamic identity of the holy city. It is chaired by the Moroccan sovereign and musters the foreign ministers of
Bangladesh, Egypt, Guinea, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Mauritania, Morocco, Niger, Pakistan, Palestine, Saudi Arabia, Senegal, and Syria in addition to the secretary general of the Organization of Islamic Conference.
