Mubarak's message to Sheikh Jabir covers relations, issues of common interests
Egypt-Kuwait, Politics, 4/18/2001

Emir of Kuwait Sheikh Jabir Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah Tuesday received a message from President Hosni Mubarak on bilateral relations. The message dealt with the outcome of Mubarak s visit to Washington on April 2.

The message was conveyed by Prime Minister Atef Ebeid during his meeting with Sheikh Jabir. The meeting was attended by Foreign Minister Amr Moussa and Egypt's Ambassador to Kuwait Mahmoud Wagdi.

Meanwhile, Ebeid held talks with Kuwaiti Crown Prince Sheikh Saad Al-Abdullah Al-Salim Al-Sabah on promoting relations in various fields. The meeting was attended by Moussa and first Deputy Premier and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad AlJabir Al-Sabah.

Egypt and Kuwait Tuesday stressed the need to develop distinguished relations between them in the political, economic and cultural fields.

This came in a joint communique issued at the end of the Higher Committee's meetings held under the co-chairmanship of the two states foreign ministers.

The two sides asserted their keenness on maintaining sincere efforts to restore Arab solidarity on sound and well-established bases and in abidance by the Arab League Charter, the Joint Arab Defence Pact and in line with international legitimacy resolutions. These efforts mainly aim at restoring Arab rights and boosting Arab national security.

The Egyptian and Kuwaiti sides welcomed the convocation of the first regular Arab Summit in Amman, stressing that this would mark the beginning of a new stage of joint Arab action.

As for the Iraqi issue, the two sides stressed commitment to bring about security and stability in the region, calling on Iraq to respect the sovereignty and integrity of Kuwaiti territories.

At the same time, they called for protecting the sovereignty of Iraq and the integrity of its territories and ending all acts that violate its sovereignty.

The communique called on Iraq to abide by all UN resolutions, especially those concerning the release of Kuwaiti prisoners and bringing back Kuwaiti property.

About the situation in the Palestinian territories, the communique condemned Israel's arbitrary practices against Palestinians and its deliberate destruction of the Palestinian economy.

The two sides called on Israel to immediately end such measures and go back to the negotiating table in accordance with UN Resolutions 242 and 338.

They urged the Security Council to take necessary measures to lift Israeli seven-month blockade of Palestinian territories, stressing Palestinians' right to self-determination and setting up an independent state with Jerusalem as its capital.
