Mubarak inaugurates COMESA summit on 22nd May

Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak inaugurates the Sixth Summit of the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) on 22nd May in Cairo.
Egypt will be handed over the session's chairmanship from Mauritius during the Summit that will be attended by Heads of State and Government of the gathering's 20 member states.
The gathering's foreign ministers will meet on May 19-20 to arrange for the Summit's agenda.
On the fringe of the SUMMIT, a mini-economic forum will be held with the participation of businessmen of the (COMESA) members who will debate issues of mutual interest and explore possible fields of cooperation such as construction, transport and Information Technology (IT).
Participants will discuss also means of enhancing trade exchange among member states especially ways to increase Egyptian exports to the COMESA.
Egyptian exports to COMESA were estimated at $49 million in the year 2000.
Discussions will also cover reports by the (COMESA) Secretariat General on the Free Trade Area that has been put into force since October of last year with the membership of Djibouti, Egypt, Sudan, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Mauritius, Kenya and Madagascar.
