On the Israeli strikes against the Syrian position

In an analysis made on Monday, the Gulf News Agency said that the Israeli prime Minister Ariel Sharon has responded to the message sent to him to test the project of the military act he proposed before he assumed power to settle the situation, noting that Sharon has once again returned the region to the cycle of "breaking the will" and this was made in the military aggression carried out by Israel against the Syrian forces in Lebanon.

The agency added that bombing the Syrian forces directly and showing the policy " To reflex power" Sharon has even threatened of, is considered a qualitative development in the Israeli position at the military level.

The analysis warned against the political trap Sharon fell in, as a result of this operation. As an act as such, especially if developed and has military dimensions will make the US and Europe interfere strongly in the situation. A matter which will make sides concerned, especially Syria invest it to demand a comprehensive interference that monitor the military act also in Palestine.

The analysis added that Sharon will find in front of him a political barrier represented in the Labor party, if he thinks of expanding this limited military act into striking the Syrian depth because that will put Israel before a new fact which is the second disengagement agreement of 1974( between Syria and Israel) has collapsed and therefore Sharon would have opened the front of the Golan in addition to Lebanon and the Palestinians.

The agency said that Israel tries to join the line of what has been recently advocated by certain Lebanese sides on demanding pullout of the Syrian forces from Lebanon and warned that such a behavior will be another foolish act because Israel, in the peak of its interference and strong links with Lebanese forces, could not convert this decision to a sword placed on Syria's neck.

The analysis stressed that Israel's resorting to such a decision at the meantime in its military act against Syria, is but a " gift " for Syria and support for the Syrian position as well as an assertion to Syria's right when it ( Syria ) considered that the proposals to re-deploy the forces and then to withdraw them is a violation to the balance in the region and that the cover for that is Israel's persistence not to find out a peaceful solution for the Palestinian question and the cause of the refugees which actually constitutes the greater present and future political crisis for the Lebanese.

The agency explained that the Israelis, by choosing the " director " ( Sharon) to strike the Syrian forces, shows that the rulers of Israel did not learn from the lessons of the past and that they also want to be re-involved in Lebanon or to test the Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, either by choosing half of the distance between Damascus and Beirut or even in remarking to the Taif agreement and backing those who call for the withdrawal of the Syrian forces until after Daher al-Baidar.

The agency concluded its analysis by saying that the Syrians, as usual, keep silence and they are analysing the situation with all its dimensions, noting that the Syrian have necessarily calculated this qualitative development ( the strikes ) and they are eventually preparing to escalate it politically, as it is not needed to reply as a " reaction." What is needed is that to have the war in the service of policy and not the opposite, and therefore not to mix between war and fighting.
