AL condemns Israeli aggressions against Syrian forces in Lebanon
Regional-Lebanon, Politics, 4/17/2001

The Arab League AL on Monday strongly condemned the brutal Israeli aggression against a position for the Syrian forces working in Lebanon.

In a statement released on Monday, the AL general secretariat said that "this aggression constitutes a grave escalation in the Israeli policy and clearly manifests the bloody policy pursued by Ariel Sharon who brings by his aggressive and escalation policy the region into the brink of a catastrophe. A thing which does not only security and stability in the region, rather the vital interests in the world."

The AL general secretariat stressed that "the Israeli aggression will not enable Israel from achieving its illusion in dismembering the Syrian and Lebanese tracks, rather will increase Lebanon's determination to defend its legitimate rights so as the Israeli forces to withdraw from Shebaa farms and Lebanon to restore back its sovereignty on all its internationally recognized borders."

The AL general secretariat called on the international community and the European Union member states as well as the US, Russia and the countries of the non- aligned movement to firmly confront attempts made by the current Israeli government of Sharon aiming at setting the region's ablaze and putting it in the cycle of violence and tension.
