Free zones to turn into export areas
Egypt, Economics, 4/14/2001

Chairman of the General Authority For Investment and Free Zones (GAFI) Mohammed A1 Ghamrawi said yesterday that turning free zones into areas where commodities for exporting purposes are manufactured has become an imperative demand especially that local industries have become up to the level of competitiveness in the foreign markets.

He added that (GAFI) will set up a one-million-dollar plant for producing electronic circuits in a free zone, which was announced to be set up in the Sixth of October City solely for IT and e-projects.

Ghamrawi agreed to establish the plant under the code of the free zones with 100 % foreign funding. In a meeting to discuss the situation in the free zones on Wednesday, Ghamrawi said these zones should turn into production zones.
