The meeting, which was held at the Moroccan guest palace was attended by the Syrian foreign minister Farouk al-Sharaa and the diplomatic advisor of the prime minister Abu Baker Ash-Sharqawi.

An hour later in the day, President Bashar al-Assad received the speaker of the Moroccan parliament Abdul Wahed al-Radi. Al-Shara was present at the meeting.

The President also met with the chief of the Consultants Council Mustafa Ukasha. Discussions during the three meetings dealt with bilateral relations and ways and means of developing them.

The two sides discussed the situation in the Middle East region in the light of Israel's escalated attacks against the Palestinians Arab people and efforts being made to revitalize pan- Arab solidarity and improve inter- Arab relations.

Earlier in Fez, President Bashar al-Assad visited the tombs of the late Moroccan Kings Muhammad V and al-Hassan II. He recited some verses from the Holy Koran and made a speech commending the two leaders who had led the struggle of the " brotherly Moroccan people " for national independence and who offered sacrifices to achieve the cherished end.
