Moroccan-Lebanese joint commission postpones meeting
Morocco-Lebanon, Politics, 4/9/2001
The Moroccan-Lebanese high joint commission meeting initially scheduled for April 11-12 will be postponed to a later date at Morocco's request.
Moroccan ambassador to Beirut, Abdeljalil Fenjiro, on Saturday informed Lebanese Premier Rafic Hariri of Morocco's wish to postpone the commission meeting to a later date because of the heavy schedule of the Moroccan Prime Minister, Abderrahmane Youssoufi, and the opening on April 13 of the Moroccan Parliament spring session.
Fenjiro told reporters after the meeting that the Lebanese Premier has voiced Lebanon's readiness to host the works of the joint commission at any date set by Morocco.
The high joint commission has never convened since inception in 1997.
The convening of the commission was brought up during the work visit Lebanese premier Rafiq Hariri had paid to Morocco in November 2000. Hariri had said he was confident relations between Morocco and Lebanon would make a stride forward after the meeting of the high joint commission.
