No plans to connect Israeli Electricity grid to Arab unified network
Regional-Israel, Economics, 4/9/2001

Egyptian Minister of Electricity Ali Al-Saeidi denied that there is an Arab plan for electric power linkage with Israel.

The Minister underlined that the Arab linkage plan for electricity network with European and Middle Eastern neighbouring countries is due to be completed next year, but does not include any projects for linkage with Israel.

In statements on the sidelines of the fourth session of Arab ministerial council of the Arab League held in Cairo he said that electricity linkage with Israel is dependent on reaching comprehensive and just peace in the Middle East.

The Ministerial Council in its session held on Wednesday at the Arab League under Tunisia's presidency and with the participation of 12 Arab ministers studied the six-way linkage project between Jordan, Syria, Iraq, Lebanon, Turkey and Egypt and the electricity linkage project for the Arab Maghreb countries between, Egypt, Libya and Tunisia.
