Arab group proposal to protect the Palestinians

The Arab states have prepared a draft resolution that will be presented before the UN human rights committee in Geneva on April 10th in order to ensure immediate protection for the Palestinians and to resume work with the fourth Geneva agreement and to halt all Israeli violations against them, to bring Israelis who are responsible for the violations to the court and to dismantle the Israeli settlements.

The Orient radio ( al- Sharq radio) quoted Egypt's ambassador in Geneva Fayza Abu al-Naja as saying on Friday that this resolution is considered a new Arab and Islamic decision after an attempt to ensure a UN force to protect the Palestinians was foiled by the US veto. She added that this new decision considers the Israeli aggressions against the Palestinians as a war crime and calls for bringing those responsible for these crimes to the court and to chase them legally.

The Egyptian ambassador continued that the European statement which was read before the European committee for human rights under item 8 on the issue of violating human rights had strongly and directly condemned the Israeli violations especially in regard to the settlement and collective punishment and closing the Palestinian areas, all measures carried out by the Israeli authorities.

Abu al-Naja concluded the statement by saying that the draft resolution also called on the international community as a whole, including the UN Security Council, the UN General Assembly and the UN secretary general Kofi Annan to shoulder their responsibilities and to take measures to force Israel abiding by the implementation of international legitimacy, as well as halting all violations committed against the Palestinians in implementation of chapter 7th of the UN charter.
