A Syrian, Lebanese and Palestinian triangle
Regional, Politics, 4/7/2001
The United Arab Emirates UAE daily al-Bayan on Friday quoted member of the PLO executive bureau Asaad Abdul Rahman as saying that the summit of the Palestinian President Yasser Arafat and the Syrian President Bashar al-Assad will mark a triangle of steadfastness and liberation including Syria, Lebanon and Palestine, in preparation to merging it with Egypt and Jordan.
In a press conference he held in Ramullah on Thursday Abdul Rahman announced that Arafat will visit Damascus by the mid of the current month after good preparations for the visit was made.
The paper added that Abdul Rahman ruled out the eruption of new differences between the Syrian and Palestinian leaderships, noting the possibility of establishing a new triangle in the region, including Syria, Palestine and Lebanon to be included within the old and effective triangle during the past ten years, represented by Egypt, Jordan and Palestine. He stressed that the new triangle has been almost crystallized and will be officially dealt with as from the mid of the current month.
