Al-Sahaf holds Kuwait, Saudi Arabia responsible for failure to reach agreement over Iraq- Kuwait relations
Iraq-Regional, Politics, 4/7/2001
The Iraqi foreign minister Muhammad Saeed al-Sahaf on Friday held Kuwait and Saudi Arabia responsible for not reaching an agreement concerning relations between Iraq and Kuwait and for foiling the efforts aiming at lifting the embargo imposed by the UN on Iraq.
In statements issued by the Iraqi press on Friday the Iraqi minister stressed that heads of delegations of Kuwait and Saudi Arabia foiled the efforts of the summit and they " themselves only" are responsible for that.
Al-Sahaf renewed Iraq's consent on the formula reached, noting that the rulers of Kuwait and Iraq are trying furiously to change the fact and the campaign that Iraq is the side responsible for the failure of these efforts.
He continued that disseminating lies will not change facts and realities, as the Arab summit in Amman called for lifting the sanctions imposed on Iraq but did not agree to the request made by Iraq that the other Arab states to lift the embargo imposed on Iraq unilaterally.
Iraq and Kuwait have been exchanging accusations of obstructing a draft resolution on their bilateral relations which are being intensified since the Gulf war of 1991.
