Minister views late writer Taha Hussein's statues
Egypt, Local, 4/4/2001

Egyptian Culture Minister Farouk Hosni and Giza Governor Mahmoud Abul Leil on Monday visited the Greater Cairo Library to inspect the statues carved for late prominent writer Taha Hussein.

The statues of Hussein, famous for being the doyen of Arab literature, embodied a contemporary artistic touch.

They were built as part of a contest to place the statue in the heart of the Galaa Square, Giza Governorate, in appreciation of the pioneering role of Hussein in serving the Arab Culture.

On the other hand, a mission from the Supreme Council of Antiquities (SCA) found 100 gold amulets ornamenting the mummy of Na'asa, spouse of the ancient ruler of Al-Wahat Al-Bahareya during the era of King Amos II of the 16th Dynasty.

SCA Secretary-General Gaballah Ali Gaballah said a gold ring on Na'asa's finger and a gold emulate representing Osiris, God of the underworld, were also found.

Cairo and Giza Antiquities Director Zahi Hawwas said that this mission has unearthed three scarabs and amulets of precious stones like turquoise, amethyst and lapis lazuli.
