Egyptian unity, freedom hailed by Copts in Egypt

US Washington Post newspaper published a statement by Copts in Egypt to expatriate Copts in which they appreciate the great conditions they live in over the last three years, an Egyptian statement said.

Great efforts were exerted by the Egyptian Government, to solve the problems of Copts.

The statement covers the Egyptian government's approval of building the biggest Coptic Church in one of the best spots in Aswan. 258 churches were approved to be built in Egypt over the year 2000.

Moreover, the statement also hinted at the re-trial of defendants in Al-Kosheh case as a proof of the transparency of Egyptian judiciary.

"President Mubarak has personally interfered to re-build one building in Shubra Al-Kheima that was used by Copts, which was demolished as no permission for construction was granted," the statement mentioned.

The statement highlighted the increase of number of Coptic candidates to official posts. Four judges, out of eight, in the supreme constitutional court are Copts.

Egypt's Copts called on Copts abroad to visit Egypt to witness the unity of Muslims and Copts in Egypt in the present.

The statement also called on Copts abroad to work side by side with Copts in Egypt to achieve a better position for their country, Egypt.

Washington Times and New York Times have published a thanks telegram by Egyptian Copts to President Mubarak for the atmosphere of freedom in Egypt.

Great numbers of Egyptian community in USA have gathered in front of Blair House, President Mubarak's residence during his visit to Washington, to salute him.

During the summit meeting between Mubarak and Bush, Egyptians also waited in front of the White House chanting slogans of support to Egypt and Mubarak, the Egyptian statement reported.
