Effective, strong, balanced American role is required

Egyptian Presidential political advisor Osama Al-Baz said that the Egyptian message addressed to the new American Administration includes the situation in the Palestinian lands with all its dimensions.

In an interview with Sawt Al-Arab Radio over the telephone from Washington, Baz stressed that violence should be stopped within a complete formula to be agreed upon, in order to be effective. "We want the American role to be effective and strong," he said.

"In order to be effective and strong the American role should be balanced or close to being balanced," he added.

"The American interests in the Middle East and the American commitment to boosting the Israeli capabilities are two factors that would lead Washington to vitalize its role in the area," he said.

"The EU is qualified to contribute effectively to peace in the Middle East especially in the light of the new American Administration's vision represented in providing help to parties involved in the conflict without presenting specific formulas to settle it," he added.
