Egyptian women full partners to men
Egypt, Culture, 4/4/2001

Egyptian First Lady Suzanne Mubarak underlined the importance of women role in the development process in Egypt.

In her speech on women and development late Monday at the Meridian International Center, Mrs. Mubarak stressed that Egyptian women are full partners to men.

She lauded numerous achievements made by Egyptian women during the past years.

Mrs. Mubarak said that achievements accomplished by Egyptian women were crowned with the establishment of the National Council for Women (NCW) in the year-2000.

"The establishment of the NCW was decreed by the political leadership in recognition of the Egyptian women role in society," said Mrs. Mubarak. She described the Arab Women Summit, hosted by Egypt in November, as an unprecedented Arab event.

Mrs. Mubarak said that the summit was an indicative of the Arab leadership understanding of the women role in society and the importance of solidarity among Arab women.
