Islam has nothing to do with destruction of human heritage in Afghanistan
Egypt, Culture, 4/2/2001
Egyptian First Lady Suzanne Mubarak had an interview with French magazine "Paris Match" due on Thursday issue.
Mrs. Mubarak spoke about women's role in Egypt and efforts to develop women's health, social and political status.
Egyptian women have assumed high pasts in diplomatic, educational, scientific research and legislative fields.
"An Egyptian woman has even won the parliamentary elections in Upper Egypt. This is an evidence women have realized their rights," said Mrs. Mubarak.
Egypt has played a significant role during the recent Arab female conference which was attended by 2000 female participants, added Mrs. Mubarak.
The coming Arab female conference will be held in morocco next November to discuss the development of Arab women in all fields.
On Afghanistan, Mrs. Mubarak said the position of women in this part of the world has nothing to do with Islam. "The destruction of the Buddha statutes is a calamity to human heritage. Islam has nothing to do with these irresponsible acts," said Mrs. Mubarak.
Mrs. Mubarak has also criticized the practices of western women that cause great harm to western families.
