Damascus officially recognizes the Palestinian Authority
News reports in Damascus quoted Palestinian sources saying that the Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and the Palestinian President Yasser Arafat had agreed on " continued coordination" on the ground of " five main principles" and that the chairman of the PLO political department Farouk al-Qaddoumi will arrive in Damascus tomorrow ( Saturday) in preparation for Arafat's expected visit on April 15 and 17.

The United Nations Development Program and Morocco have launched a pilot project, aimed to promoting the creation by rural women of micro-enterprises in water quality control. The project, co-financed by the UNDP and the Moroccan drinking water utility (ONEP), will, in a first stage, create 5 micro-enterprises in rural areas. Promoters who have undergone a practical and theoretical training will receive loans, equipment and a transport means. Go

Egyptian archaeologist Zahi Hawas denied reports circulated by British archaeologists recently that queen Cleopatra was short, obese and ugly. "The Britons are falsifying the facts of history without scientific basis," said Hawas. "The ancient Greek engravings and the remaining statues of Cleopatra indicate that she was beautiful, well-featured and lissome," he said. Go
