Regional-Lebanon, Politics, 3/28/2001
An official source in Amman announced that the ordinary Arab summit for the year 2002 will be held in Beirut according to a proposal made by the United Arab Emirates which was due to host this meeting in line with the alphabetical order of the Arab states.
The delegation of the United Arab Emirates to Amman's summit had informed the Lebanese President Emil Lahoud his country's desire to have Beirut as the venue for the meeting, as an appreciation for the Lebanese position and in support of Lebanon.
Lahoud expressed his thanks for the initiative of the UAE delegation and Lebanon's readiness to host it. An official source also said that the current Arab summit in Amman approved this proposal.
