Regional, Local, 3/26/2001
The Arab Lawyers Union (ALU) Sunday condemned the outcome of U.S. investigations on the tragedy of the Egyptian Boeing plane which plunged off U.S. coasts on October 31, 1999.
The ALU, at the end of its four-day conference in Beirut Saturday, affirmed that the U.S. investigations are meant to frame the Egyptian polite with the disaster.
The ALU called for having neutral investigations by a specialized agency.
On the other hand, the ALU condemned Israeli practices and encroachments on the water of Hazbani and Wazani rivers.
The ALU called on Arab states, in its final communique at the end of its ordinary 20th session held recently in Beirut, to honour their commitments to extend financial support to Lebanon and back its reconstruction.
The communique, rejecting settling Palestinians in Lebanon or any country, insisted on the right of Palestinians to return to' their homeland and establish a Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital.
It stressed the importance of backing the Palestinian Intifada morally, politically and diplomatically, implementing resolutions of the October Arab summit held in Cairo and halting normalization with Israel.
The communique called for lifting sanctions imposed on Iraq, confirming that the Iraqi people had the right to live in freedom.
It confirmed support for Syria and its leadership to abort Israeli and American plans against the Arab nation.
