Morocco celebrates new hegira year tuesday

Morocco will be celebrating the new Hegira year on Tuesday, 1st Moharram 1422, corresponding to March 27, 2001. A statement by the Moroccan ministry of endowments and Islamic Affairs said the moon crescent announcing the new lunar month of Muharram could not be observed on Sunday, therefore the new year will be marked on Tuesday.
The statement voiced on the occasion best wishes of health and happiness to King Mohammed VI, to his brother Prince Moulay Rachid, to all the members of the royal family as well as to the Moroccan people and the whole Islamic Ummah.
