Morocco, Japan cooperate in traditional fishing promotion
Morocco-Japan, Economics, 3/24/2001

The Moroccan ministry of fisheries and the Japanese international cooperation agency (JICA) signed in Rabat Friday a technical cooperation agreement on traditional fishing.

The accord is meant to extend an integrated technical assistance to traditional fishermen through transfer of Japanese technology and know-how.

The agreement also includes the a Japanese expert mission in Morocco, equipment and machinery supply and technical training sessions in Japan.

The five-year cooperation project will be launched in June at the maritime fisheries vocational training center in the northern city of Larache. The center was set up thanks to a Japanese donation worth 100 million DH ($9.5 million).

The two sides also signed the minutes related to the assessment of the vocational training project jointly carried out by a mission of Japanese experts who visited Morocco March 18-24 and a team of Moroccan experts.
