Moroccan premier meets head of Banque Nationale de Paris
Morocco-France, Economics, 3/23/2001

Moroccan Premier Abderrahmane Youssoufi met here Thursday with head of La Banque Nationale de Paris-Paris Bas, Michel Pebereau, who was accompanied by general manager of La Banque Marocaine du Commerce et de l'Industrie (BMCI), Mohamed Faris.

Youssoufi voiced appreciation for the role played by the French financial institution in raising the ceiling of the Moroccan debt rescheduling mechanism and in energizing Moroccan economy.

The Prime Minister also surveyed the challenges thrown at Moroccan economy with the enforcement of the Morocco-European Union association accord.

Pebereau underlined the importance of the creation in Morocco of the international trade center that will extend assistance to small and medium-sized enterprises, mainly in matters of trade exchanges at the international scale.

The center is the first of the kind in Africa and will be connected to other centers in Europe, America, Asia and the Arab world.

La Banque Nationale de Paris has just purchased 111,375 new shares in the Moroccan BMCI, listed on the Casablanca stock market.

The new shares bring PNB's participation in BMCI's capital to 51.50 percent.
