Margaret Tutwiler nominated US ambassador to Morocco

President George W. Bush Thursday announced his intention to nominate Ms Margaret Tutwiler to be Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States to Morocco. "Margaret Tutwiler has a vast knowledge of the issues that affect Morocco and the surrounding region," President Bush said.

"Her experience in the Middle East and North Africa will be a great asset for Morocco and for the United States. Margaret will be an outstanding representative of the United States in Morocco," said President Bush.

Ms. Tutwiler, who will replace Edward Gabriel, served as Assistant Secretary of State and spokesman from 1989 until 1992 in President George H.W. Bush's administration, then served as Assistant to the President for Communications from August 1992 to January 1993. Prior to that she served for eight years in the Reagan administration, including as Assistant Secretary of the Treasury for Public Affairs and Deputy Assistant to the President for Political Affairs.

Originally from Birmingham, Alabama, she is a graduate of the University of Alabama.
