Tunisian president in Turkey

Tunisian president Zein al-Abidin Bin Ali started on Thursday an official visit to Turkey which will last for two days to be dedicated to bilateral cooperation discussions.
This visit, which id the first of its kind by the Tunisian President, came at the invitation of the Turkish President Ahmad Ceasar and " falls in the course of strengthening fraternal ties and cooperation relations between the two countries," said a Tunisian statement.
President Bin Ali whose visit's program has not set in details will hold talks with his Turkish counterpart and will meet with high ranking politicians in Ankara.
However, this visit was preceded by demonstrations to promote the Tunisian- Turkish economic partnership, organized in three Turkish cities. Both Tunisia and Ankara seek to reactivate the volume of exchange estimated at 76 million dinars ( USD 54.2 million) in the year 2000.
Tunisia exports Phosphate and leather and certain electrical equipment to Turkey and imports from its barley, cotton and textiles. The two countries are linked to almost 30 cooperation agreement in the economic, tourism and cultural fields. The two countries, at the meantime, try to promote joint investment and commerce. So far only 12 projects are implemented in the areas of chemistry, mechanics and textiles, thanks to mixed investments estimated at 18.9 million dinars ( approximately USD 13.5 million).
