Syrian oil exports increasing
Syria, Economics, 3/22/2001

Trade sources at the British capital London said on Wednesday that Syria intends to preserve the level of its monthly exports of crude oil without a change in April ( the next month).

Meantime, the Iraqi deputy prime minister Tareq Aziz refused the " smart sanctions" proposed by the US to eliminate aspects of poor performance in the sanctions on Baghdad.

The sources said that the plan provides for the exportation of the light Syrian crude oil for April states to export 14 full shipment and two other small shipments, representing 300,000 barrels every day.

However, volume of the exportation plan of the heavy crude oil of al-Sweideyah district was slightly reduced to 6.5 shipment of 130,000 barrels a day in comparison of the exports of the year 2000. To maintain the stability of the Syrian production, observers believe that the extra amounts of exported oil are resulting from importing amounts of the Iraqi oil which are locally consumed. A matter which paves the way to increase oil exports of Syrian oil products.

However, Syrian and Iraqi officials have denied that the oil pipe line was put to work. The two states did not take the consent of the UN to export the Iraqi oil through the pipeline.

On Wednesday late night, the Iraqi news agency said that 6 civilian Iraq citizens were wounded in an explosion took place in al-Zaweyah in Baghdad, attributed by the Iraqi authorities to " gang of Iranian hireling" and that the Iraqi authorities are investigating this matter.
