Mauritanian refuse Saturday as a day odd
Mauritania, Politics, 3/22/2001

The wave of protests continues in Mauritania over the decision taken by the government to consider Saturday as a day to be added to the traditional " day off" of Friday, while the Mauritanian government is mobilizing its media and religious forums to defend this decision within a battle which has been lasting since 2 weeks.

"The students initiative which stands against the Israeli infiltration of Mauritania" which is an unlicensed student organization and one of the main opposition sides of Friday's day off considered this decision as falling in the context of normalization efforts.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the organization announced total rejection to the " Saturday's day off " decision regardless to justifications brought by the government in defending it. The organization explained that this decision constitutes" a violation to the feeling of the nation and a flagrant defiance of its holy site."

The " Initiative" which on Tuesday organized a second protest sit in day in front of the Mauritanian ministry of education said it will resist the " Jewish infiltration" inside Mauritania and will keep on struggling until Palestine returns back to its owners."
