Syrian source denies Syrian re-deployment in al-Shouf
Syria-Lebanon, Politics, 3/21/2001

An official Syrian source has denied news that the Syrian forces had made any redeployment in al-Shouf area in Mount Lebanon or near al- Mukhtara village where the house of the Lebanese member of parliament is situated.

In a statement to the London- based al-Sharq al-Awsat daily issued on Tuesday, the Syrian source said that the aim behind these sneaked news is to raise sympathy.

A well-informed source expressed its fears over the possibility of having a scheme behind such leaked and fabricated news about works which violate "people's peace " in Lebanon.

Similarly, an official Lebanese source denied any redeployment of the Syrian forces either in al-Shouf or in al-Mukhtara.

Earlier Reuters had quoted eye witnesses as saying that Syria had recently sent troops to al-Shouf mountains areas following tension with Junblat.

Meantime, sources close to Junblat said on Tuesday in a statement to the Lebanese daily al-Nahar that no Syrian moves were made in the hills surrounding al-Mukhtara village, the birthplace of Junblat
