Increased US support to the Iraqi opposition
Iraq, Politics, 3/21/2001
The US state department has stressed that Washington seeks to expand its support to the Iraqi opposition by increasing number of organizations it finances, in addition to the Iraqi national congress which includes the opposition groups.
News reports quoted the spokesman for the US state department Richard Boucher as saying that the US administration seeks other possible sides where millions of US Dollars go, decided by the US Congress to back the Iraqi opposition.
Worthy mentioning that the Iraqi national Congress which includes regional, religious and national groups and works from London as a headquarters is usually exposed to criticism from the American officials over its inability to eliminate internal conflicts and not embarking of a solid integrated strategy.
On march 5th, the US state department announced that a sum of USD five million was allocated to the Iraqi national congress, noting that talks continue with this organization to provide it with extra aids estimated at USD 29 million.
