Moroccans in Senegal set up association
Morocco-Senegal, Local, 3/20/2001
Moroccan students, traders, executives and craftsmen settled in Senegal have officially announced on Sunday the birth of their association, "Association of Moroccans in Senegal."
The association is geared towards maintaining the expatriate community's links with their home country and promote education actions by granting subsidies and scholarships to children of this community.
Cinema, drama, literary, music, and artistic events are also on the new association's agenda as a means to promote Moroccan culture in the African country.
Some 800 Moroccans are presently living in Senegal, more than half of them are students in medical and pharmacy schools. Over 100 hundreds are traders living in the cities of Dakar, Thies and Saint Louis, the rest of the community is composed of children of mixed marriages.
