Morocco, Health, 3/20/2001
A program to control tobacco-addiction dubbed "the five-day plan" was launched in Rabat Monday to help smokers who decided to stop the habit stick to their decision and cope with the withdrawal symptoms.
The program is based on a group therapy method, moderated by specialist physicians.
Several speakers took the floor at the launch of the program to underline that a cigarette includes some 4,000 toxic chemical components dangerous to health and that smoking causes 90% of lung cancers in addition to mouth, tongue, pancreas and bladder cancers.
Smoking is also behind vessel and artery diseases, cause heart and brain strokes and kills 3 million persons every year throughout the world.
The program is initiated by the local Ribat-Al-Fath association in cooperation with an international NGO, ADRA, active in the fields of development, health and struggle against illiteracy.
