IDAX 2001 opened in Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi crown prince Sheikh Khaleifa Bin Zayed Al- Nahyan, who is the deputy commander of the armed forces on Sunday opened the 5th session of the International Defense Exhibition ( IDAX 2001 ).

The opening ceremony was attended by the Jordanian King Abdullah II and the Syrian delegation led by the Defense minister Lt. Gen. Mustafa Tlass, the United Arab Emirates UAE minister of defense Lt. Gen. Muhammad Bin Rashed al-Maktoum and delegations representing some 65 Arab and foreign countries.

Some 860 companies representing 42 countries including Saudi Arabia, Jordan and the UAE are taking part in the exhibition during which latest defense weapons and technology will be exhibited on an area of 28,000 square meters.

The exhibition of a special importance in being the first of its kind in the region regarding the size and available potentials and services provided to the participants. These services are providing close door and open displaying halls to exhibit heavy weapons and special played for mobile show and carrying out field practices by live ammunition, besides naval exercises for warships at Zayed port and the industrial channel off the International exhibition center.

This exhibition, however, is considered the largest and most comprehensive in the world to promote defense industries in the region.

It includes various types of advanced defense weapons and is attended by 21 naval pieces from 7 countries, including a nuclear submarine, frigate, anti mines ship and other types of various weapons.

Today ( Monday) the Arab Gulf defense conference will be held. It is attended by the participation of several Arab and foreign military figures under the title " withstanding dangers imposed on the Gulf Cooperation Council and its defense policy." The conference is coincided with the exhibition and will deal with several issues listed on the meeting's agenda.
