Water conflict in the Middle East
Regional-Israel, Politics, 3/19/2001
The British daily " Sunday telegraph" said in its Sunday's issue that military experts and analysts have recently warned that the Middle East is about to enter in an armed conflict over waters between Syria and Lebanon on the one hand and Israel on the other.
The British daily added quoting these experts that the Middle east region has been always a fertile place for wars over waters, noting that during the 1950s and the 1960 s Israel had strongly replied to Syrian attempts to convert the waters of the Jordan's river by sending its plane to strike the Syrian bulldozers which were working in that project.
The paper added that the current differences between Israel and Lebanon over al-Hasbani river waters signify remarks that the struggle continues over waters in the Middle East and recall the possibilities of waters wars.
