Assaulted Japanese woman in good condition

The Ministry of Interior issued a statement today on the assault earlier in the day on a tourist Japanese woman at the Giza Pyramids area.
The tourist was visiting the site in company of a number of her family members when her assailant, Mohamad Shehata Matar who works in a barber shop in Alexandria, tried to wrench away her camera, wounding her in the back and stomach with a knife.
Tourist police were quick in tackling the robber and arrested him after firing a number of shots at several parts of his body.
According to the statement, the Japanese woman`s health condition is stable after treatment for minor stab wounds. Her assailant is in hospital for surgical operation under tight security.
The Ministry of Interior statement indicated that the Japanese woman, who is married to a British national working for AMECO and lives in Maadi suburb, was not among a tourist group.
