Unionists stress mobilization for completion of morocco's territorial integrity
Morocco, Politics, 3/17/2001

Participants in the fourth congress of the Democratic Labor Confederation (CDT, close to Youssoufi's Socialist Party USFP) on Friday stressed mobilization for the completion of Morocco's territorial integrity.

Holding the congress in the southern city of Laayoune was a sign of solidarity meant to consolidate the Kingdom's territorial unity, said CDT in a final communiqu? that crowned its congress, held under the theme "Unity and Democracy."

The congress was held "in a juncture marked by Morocco's commitment in a new era, under the leadership of a new King, who repeatedly expressed his firm will to face the country's present situation, with a new approach based on the principles of democracy and the rule of law," said the CDT.

The Union stressed the need for a "global national and peaceful revolution" to guarantee Morocco's future, stability and consolidate its territorial and human integrity."

The CDT also called for audacious measures and decisions to materialize the Moroccan people's ambitions.

The labor class is suffering from a dramatic situation that is worsening due to the weakness of wages and compensations, lack of social, health and educational services, individual and collective dismissal, working hours cut, job loss in addition to production unit closure and brakes to freedom, CDT said, deploring the "absence of a culture of dialogue and the shilly-shallying in the implementation of collective conventions, as well as the non-respect of protocols concluded with several firms.

The three-day congress, attended by more than 2,600 participants, re-elected Noubir Amaoui, Secretary-General of the Union.
