Egyptian team investigating Boeing's crash heads for US
Egypt-USA, Local, 3/14/2001
An EgyptAir team under Captain Hassan Musharrafa, Head of the Operations section, headed on Tuesday for the US to embark on investigations in the crash of the EgyptAir flight 990, a Boeing 767, off the US east coast on October 1999.
An official source at the EgyptAir said the Egyptians have the right to reject the US report on the crash. The report is expected by the end of this month. the Egyptian side will respond to it within 60 days.
"If the US side insists on its position and turns down the Egyptian objections, a final report will be issued but it will annex the Egyptian views," he said.
The source said the International Aviation Companies, owning Boeing 676, will end the technical inspection of its planes after some mechanic and power problems in the tail.
It is noteworthy that similar problems were the most probable cause behind the Egyptian plane's tragedy.
