Regional, Politics, 3/13/2001
The Arab foreign ministers on Monday and following their opening session held in Cairo issued a statement in which they warned against the dangers of the continuation of the Israeli aggression and tightening of siege on the Palestinian people.
The statement stressed that such brutal Israeli practices reflect the real intentions of the Israeli new government.
The Arab ministers reiterated the firm support to the Palestinians people and their courageous Intifada which aims at the restoration of their full rights including the establishment of their independent state with holy Jerusalem as its capital.
The statement demanded the international community, in particular the United States and the European Union, to adopt stances against the dangerous Israeli practices, forcing Israel to comply with the resolutions of international legitimacy.
On the sideline of the meetings of the Arab league Council foreign minister al-Shara met with his Algerian counterpart Abdul Aziz Belkhadem and discussed with him the agenda of the Arab foreign ministers meetings as well as bilateral relations between the two brotherly countries.
Meantime, the foreign ministers of Qatar, Algeria, Yemen and Palestine have stressed their support for the Syrian stance regarding the call for israel's complete withdrawal from the occupied Syrian Golan to the June 1967 border lines, and from the rest of the occupied Lebanese lands, and for releasing the lebanese prisoners in the Israeli jails.
In their speeches at the opening meeting of the 115th session of the Arab foreign ministers Council, the ministers reiterated the necessity of practical support for the Palestinian people's Intifada in confrontation of the Israeli occupation till the Palestinian people's rights to self- determination are restored and the establishment of the Palestinian independent state with Jerusalem as a capital is realized, besides the right of the Palestinian refugees to repatriation.
The ministers held the Israeli government responsible for the blockade of the peace process, and for the tension in the region due to the refusal of international legitimacy resolutions and the land for peace principle.
They condemned the Israeli continuous aggression on the Palestinian people and urged the United States, Russia and the European Union to pressure israel to stop its attacks on the Arab people.
The Arab ministers also called for lifting the international sanctions imposed on Iraq.
