Egypt-USA, Local, 3/12/2001
Head of Egyptian Civil Aviation Authority, Abdul Fatah Katto said yesterday that the report on EgyptAir 990 plunging off US east coast is not complete yet.
No member in the investigation committee can give statements on the issue or discuss publicly the causes of the disaster while investigations are still undergoing.
A Civil Aviation Authority official said the preliminary report will be issued by the end of March.
If the report does not satisfy the Egyptian view, we will refuse it and forward our views, the official said adding that Egypt is committed to international regulation which give 60 day deadline for the Egyptian response.
The Egyptian side has raised a number of questions on the accident but no answer was received so far.
Shaker Qalada, the head of the Egyptian investigation committee has left to New York to follow-up the investigations.
He will also refuse the US allegations on the co-pilot's suicidal theory.
Meantime, an official in the Transport Ministry said that available information say the US report did not accuse the co-pilot though it might mention he was suffering from mental disorder, an Egyptian report said.
