Confrontation continued between Israel, the Palestinians
Palestine-Israel, Politics, 3/10/2001

Confrontation continued strongly on Friday in various areas of the West Bank and Gaza immediately after Friday's prayers and the angry demonstrations converted into attacks at the Israeli patrols which were firing bullets and shells resulted in wounding 20 Palestinians.

On Friday afternoon, the confrontation covered all parts of Gaza, where the Israeli war minister Benjamin Bin Aleazer was exposed to fired bullets while inspecting one of the Israeli military positions and monitoring the Palestinian self- rule areas.

The Israeli radio said that Bin Aleazer was not hit in the incident and that a palestinian fired two bullets before the Israeli security men could cordon the Israeli war minister and protected him.

Bin Aleazer toured the Israeli military positions which are adjoining the Palestinian areas and ordered his forces to be always ready to challenge the Palestinian Intifada, noting that the aim of the Israeli army is to kill the leaders of the Intifada and foil the resistance operations.

News reports said the Israeli shells hit the Palestinian farmer Khaled Mousa al-Najjar ( 45 year old) near Hebron, and the Palestinian youth Khaled Najahi near " Sousya" settlement.

Meantime, Palestinian sources stressed that the Israeli forces drilled a vast and deep trench in the center of Beir Zeit besides two other trenches drilled earlier to prevent the moves of citizens and cars only through the Israeli military barriers.

These trenches had cut Beir zeit from Ramullah and to other 23 neighboring villages and prevented the road to the Beir Zeit university.

President of Beir Zeit university Hanna Naser said that the Israeli forces backed by tanks cut telephone and electricity lines from the city with the aim to re-occupy it and to complete plans of cordoning the Palestinian cities already started with Ramallah, Areiha and Nablus.
