Palestinian ambassador: Israeli government is not peace cabinet
Palestine-Israel, Politics, 3/9/2001
Palestine's ambassador in Morocco, Abu Marouane, said Thursday the new Israeli cabinet is not a government of peace.
In an interview with the Moroccan second TV channel "2M," the diplomat said the vision adopted by (Israeli prime minister) Ariel Sharon to pick cabinet members was not inspired from reality, because we thought the new government was elected to establish peace, and this is not the case.
He said the new cabinet was formed to meet a natural evolution in Israel, arguing that the Ashkenaze Zionism is loosing ground in the government and extremist religious trends are emerging.
He added that the number of Israelis applying for visas in foreign embassies is on the rise (hundreds of thousands) while those who arrive in the region do not have any feeling of belonging with the land.
Abu Marouane argues the first priority of Sharon's led cabinet is to muzzle the Intifadah in order to secure the safety of Jewish settlers. He explained that the participation of Shimon Peres, who seeks to hide Israel's racist and inhumane practices, serves the interests of Ashkenaze Jews.
